Carbapenems are unique β-lactam antibiotics known for their exceptionally wide antibacterial range and potent activity[1]. Owing to their resistance to β-lactamase degradation and low toxicity, they have become a cornerstone treatment for severe bacterial infections. They remain highly stable against plasmid-mediated extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs), as well as chromosomal and plasmid-mediated cephalosporinases (AmpC enzymes).
