Epidemiology
Respiratory tract infections are among the most frequent diseases affecting humans, with no restrictions by age, gender, or geography. They are a primary cause of illness and death globally[1]. Frequently encountered respiratory pathogens include the novel coronavirus, influenza A and B viruses, respiratory syncytial virus, adenovirus, human metapneumovirus, rhinovirus, parainfluenza viruses types I, II, and III, bocavirus, enterovirus, coronaviruses, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Chlamydia pneumoniae, and Streptococcus pneumoniae[2,3]. Although the clinical presentation of respiratory infections is often similar, the therapeutic approaches, prognosis, and disease progression can vary significantly depending on the causative pathogen[4,5]. Current laboratory detection methods for these pathogens include virus isolation, antigen testing, and nucleic acid amplification. This test is designed to detect and identify specific viral nucleic acids in patients presenting with respiratory symptoms, and includes subtyping of influenza and coronaviruses. When used alongside other laboratory findings, it aids in the diagnosis of respiratory infections. Negative outcomes do not rule out viral infection and should not be the sole basis for clinical decisions. Positive results cannot exclude co-infections with bacteria or other viruses not covered by the test. Operators must have professional training in gene amplification or molecular biology techniques and possess the necessary qualifications. The laboratory must have appropriate biosafety measures and protective protocols.
Work Flow
The Viral DNA/RNA Kit, suitable for use with an Automatic Nucleic Acid Extractor, is utilized for nucleic acid extraction. The recommended sample input volume is 200 μL, and the elution volume should be 150 μL.
