Epidemiology

Bacillus anthracis, a gram-positive, spore-forming bacterium, is the causative agent of anthrax, an acute zoonotic disease. Infection routes determine the form of disease: cutaneous, gastrointestinal, or pulmonary anthrax. Cutaneous anthrax, the most frequent form, typically arises from direct contact with contaminated animal products such as hides or meat. It carries a low mortality risk and can resolve spontaneously or be fully treated. Inhalation of spores may lead to pulmonary anthrax, while ingestion of infected meat can cause gastrointestinal anthrax. Severe cases can progress to anthrax meningitis and may be fatal. The exceptionally resilient spores can persist in the environment; when an outbreak is not promptly identified and controlled, the pathogen can be shed by hosts and sporulate anew, perpetuating an infectious cycle that poses an enduring regional hazard.

Work Flow

Extraction employs a general DNA/RNA kit together with an automatic nucleic acid extractor. Adhere strictly to the manufacturer's instructions for use. The advised elution volume is 80 µL.
