Epidemiology
Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) is an obligate intracellular prokaryotic parasite that requires eukaryotic host cells. Based on serotyping, it is classified into serotypes A through K. Most urogenital infections are associated with serotypes D-K of the trachoma biovar. In men, infection typically presents as urethritis, which may resolve without therapy but often becomes chronic with periodic flare-ups, and can be complicated by epididymitis, proctitis, and other conditions.
