Epidemiology
Hantaviruses are enveloped, segmented, negative-sense RNA viruses. They are divided into two types: one that causes hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS), mainly prevalent in Europe and the Americas, and another that causes hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) due to Hantaan virus, common in China. The Hantaan type manifests as HFRS, characterized by high fever, hypotension, bleeding, oliguria or polyuria, and renal impairment. It is pathogenic to humans and warrants significant attention.
Work Flow
One recommended extraction reagent is the Viral DNA/RNA Kit, which can be used with an automated nucleic acid extractor. Follow the instructions for use. Use a sample volume of 200 μL, with a recommended elution volume of 80 μL.
Another recommended reagent is the Nucleic Acid Extraction or Purification Kit (YDP315-R). Proceed according to the instructions for use. Use a 140 μL sample volume, and elute in 60 μL.
