Epidemiology
Hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) is a contagious illness triggered by enteroviruses (EV). To date, 108 distinct enterovirus serotypes have been identified, classified into four groups: A, B, C, and D. The primary causative agents are enterovirus 71 (EV71) and coxsackievirus A16 (CoxA16). The condition predominantly affects children under 5 years of age, presenting with vesicular lesions on the hands, feet, mouth, and other areas. A minority of cases may progress to serious complications including myocarditis, pulmonary edema, and aseptic meningoencephalitis.
Work Flow
Option 1: Use the General DNA/RNA Kit in combination with an Automatic Nucleic Acid Extractor. Follow the manufacturer's protocol precisely. Process 200 µL of sample and elute in 80 µL.
Option 2: Employ the Sample Release Reagent. Adhere rigidly to the provided instructions for extraction.
Option 3: Use either a viral RNA mini kit or the Nucleic Acid Extraction or Purification Kit (catalog number YDP315-R). Follow the kit instructions strictly. Process 140 µL of sample and elute in 60 µL.
