Epidemiology

Hepatitis B, caused by the hepatitis B virus (HBV), is primarily marked by liver inflammation and can affect multiple organs. Clinical manifestations include fatigue, anorexia, edema of the lower limbs or whole body, and enlarged liver due to hepatic dysfunction. Among adults infected, 5% are unable to clear the virus, while in vertical transmission, 95% become persistently infected. Chronic infection may eventually lead to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma [1–4].

Work Flow

The recommended extraction uses a virus DNA/RNA kit compatible with an automated nucleic acid extractor. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions: starting sample volume is 300 µL and the elution volume is 70 µL.

SpecificityThe specificity results show that all 50 cases of healthy HBV DNA negative serum samples are negative; the cross-reactivity test results show that there is no cross-reaction between this kit and other viruses (HAV, HCV, DFV, HIV) for nucleic acid detection with blood samples, and human genomes.
