Epidemiology

Among childhood cancers, acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most frequent. The classification of acute leukemia (AL) has evolved from the MIC system (morphology, immunology, cytogenetics) to MICM, which incorporates molecular biology testing. In 1994, the TEL fusion in pediatric B-lineage ALL was attributed to the recurrent translocation t(12;21)(p13;q22). Following the identification of the AML1 fusion gene, the TEL-AML1 fusion is now considered the most reliable prognostic indicator in children with ALL.

Work Flow

The procedure utilizes a commercial kit for total RNA isolation from whole blood.
