Epidemiology
Forest encephalitis (FE), also called tick-borne encephalitis (TBE), is an acute central nervous system infection caused by the forest encephalitis virus. This virus belongs to the genus Flavivirus, family Flaviviridae. The spherical particles measure 40–50 nm in diameter, have a molecular weight near 4×106 Da, and contain a positive-sense single-stranded RNA genome [1]. Clinical manifestations include high fever, headache, coma, rapidly progressing meningeal irritation, and muscle paralysis affecting the neck and limbs, resulting in a high mortality rate. Early and rapid detection of the virus is critical for treatment, and developing a simple, specific, and quick etiological diagnostic method is highly valuable for clinical diagnosis [1,2].
Work Flow
Employ a nucleic acid extraction or purification kit (YDP315-R) and strictly follow the accompanying protocol. The recommended sample input volume is 140 µL, with an elution volume of 60 µL.
Alternatively, use a general DNA/RNA kit () together with an automatic nucleic acid extractor (). Adhere precisely to the respective instructions. For this approach, use a sample volume of 200 µL and elute in 80 µL.
